REFLECTIVE SAFETY

A new reflective safety trim kit for use on motorcycle, snowmobile and other sporting helmets has been announced by 3M Company’s reflective products division. Supplied with three 1by 4-in. strips of silver Scotchlite brand reflective sheeting, the kits provide an easy, inexpensive means of adding nighttime visibility to rider and passenger. The trim can be used on new or old helmets, and it meets legal requirements in states requiring reflective materials on safety helmets. Adhesive-backed for easy application, the sheeting is a retro-reflective material that reflects light back to its source from a wide angle. Strips can be placed individually on helmets or cut into decorative patterns, depending on preferences. Each strip provides a brilliant white safety warning at night, even when wet. More than 200 times brighter than white paint, the reflective sheeting is similar to that used in reflective traffic signs and license plates and is visible up to 1200 feet in the beams from headlights of oncoming cars, according to 3M. Thirty-eight states require that motorcyclists wear protective headgear. Of these, 14 require at least some reflection for nighttime visibility. Scotchlite Helmet Safety Trim Kits are available from local hardware, auto accessory, motorcycle and snowmobile shops at the price of 59 cents each.

EXTENDED FORKS

Frank’s Maintenance and Engineering, of Evanston, Ill., announces the availability of its one-piece extended fork tube kits for Harley-Davidson, Triumph, BSA, Norton, Enfield, Matchless, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

Each tube is made from one piece of steel, machined and threaded to work exactly like the factory originals, only longer. Their steel specifications equal or exceed those required by the manufacturers for tensil strength and psi, and the tubes are cold-formed and cold-machined. The product is safe and unwelded.

Installation is done with normal tools by taking the forks apart and re-assem-bling, using the over-stock tubes and spacers. Any length from 1 in. over stock is available. Prices are $65 up to and including 8 in. over stock; $75 over 8 in. plus $1 per inch per tube. Chroming is $15 per set extra. Be sure to include make, model and year of cycle when ordering.

Also available are chromed collars for cycles with outside springs. These fit above the spring and are tightened down with three set screws, which hold the spring in tension and give a complete chromed tube effect.

Order from Frank’s Maintenance and Engineering, Dept. CW-9, 1130-32 Florence, Evanston, IL 60202. Dealer inquiries are invited.

AUTOMATIC VISE-WRENCH

The new Aragon "Lever Wrench" will grasp anything without pre-setting and is operated with only one hand. You can lock the jaws of this vise-like wrench, instantly and automatically, on any size object, from thinnest shim stock to 1 3/8 in. pipe.

Not an ordinary gripping wrench, the Aragon “Lever-Wrench” requires no adjustments. The patented interlocking mechanism automatically senses the size of the material to be gripped and then clamps the jaws with up to one ton of pressure. The tightening lever is then quickly released with a flick of the fingers.

The Aragon “Lever-Wrench” is ideal for welding, sheet metal, and general shop work. No toolbox or garage should be without this handy tool.
