STORZ CLASSIC COVER

Defense against dust
ONE OF A COLLECTIBLE motorcycle’s worst enemies is dust, which can work its way into a stored machine’s nooks and crannies and cause havoc when it comes time to polish the thing for a Sunday-morning ride or a classic-bike concours.
Steve Storz of Storz Performance (239 S.
Olive St., Ventura, CA 93001; 805/641-9540) owns a classic bike or two, and is well aware of the problem. That’s why he sells the Classic Cover, a motorcycle cover whose sole purpose is to protect a bike from dust, paint overspray, scratches and rub marks while it is being stored indoors or transported in an enclosed vehicle.
The Classic Cover, available at dealers or directly from Storz Performance, is made of a soft black flannel material that won’t scratch a lavish paint job. Its
gold piping makes it look like the world’s biggest Chivas Regal pouch. Fitting or removing the cover is simple because it weighs only a few ounces, and there’s no problem with it staying put on a bike thanks to a full-perimeter elastic cord that is sewn into the cover’s hem.
We’ve tried the Classic Cover on several old and new bikes, and it fit everything except fullboat touring rigs. We can only find one fault with the Classic Cover: At $125, it’s not inexpensive. But for many owners of custom, classic and collectible motorcycles, that’s a reasonable price to pay to keep dust and scratches at bay.
