BLUE CORAL MOTO BLACK
Powdercoat protector
WE’RE ALL FAMILIAR WITH POWDER-coating, the baked-on finish often found on engine cases, frames and wheels. How best, though, to beautify and care for it?
New to the market, Blue Coral’s Moto Black is formulated to restore the sheen to faded powdercoating, engines in particular. On smooth surfaces, the petroleum-based product is as easy to use as its directions indicate: Make sure the part is cool; apply with a soft brush or cloth; let dry; and buff off the excess.
Because some sort of applicator is required, Moto Black isn’t especially user-friendly in tight confines, between the cylinder Vee or cooling fins on a late-model Harley-Davidson Big Twin, for instance. At least the long-lasting, dustand streak-free shine doesn’t burn off like some sprays.
The clear, syrupy liquid also works well on frames and wheels, regardless if they’re powdercoated or painted. It cuts quickly through brake dust and light grease, leaving a glossy appearance comparable to wax. Used liberally, the contents of a single 8-ounce squeeze bottle ($6.99 from Blue Coral, 5300 Harvard Ave., Cleveland, OH 44105; 800/416-1600) provides about two dozen applications. Think of it as brush-on beauty. U
