Baja Off Road Tours

Baja California, Mexico

IT’S DIFFICULT TO GET A true sense of adventure by touring through modern America. You don’t have to worry about getting lost so long as there’s a Texaco station to direct you; there’s little concern about food because there’s a McDonald’s at every off-ramp; and a warm bed is never farther away than the nearest Holiday Inn.

But in the Baja peninsula of Mexico, things are different. Just getting from one spot to another can be a challenge in itself. If you don’t speak the language, don’t know

where or how to get gas, and aren’t familiar with the lay of the land, a Baja trip can be too much of an adventure.

Baja Off-Road Tours, or BORT, exists to split the difference, to take the risk and hardship out of a

trip to Baja while leaving all the adventure. Chris Haines, a former Honda factory racing mechanic and a veteran Baja traveler, is the founder of BORT. He supplies the motorcycles (Honda XR250Rs and

XR600Rs), the food, the gas and the lodging, and he leads the expeditions. The itinerary includes some of the most luxurious restaurants and resort hotels in Baja, as well as meals on the trail and nights in small Mexican settlements. The tour includes three nights in Mexico as it winds from Ensenada to San Felipe and back along the beautiful Mexican coast.

All of this costs $ 1200 per person. BORT trips are scheduled well in advance, so contact Haines to make reservations, at BORT, 25108 Marguerite Pkwy, Suite B-126, Mission Viejo, CA 92692; (714) 830-6569.
