Powerlet ProForm Heated Liner

Plug in, ride on

IF YOU HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THE wonderfulness of an electric jacket liner, you truly don’t know what you’re missing. Not only does a heated liner keep you warm on cool days, it allows you to ride farther and longer while maintaining a higher level of alertness.

Powerlet, best known for its range of on-bike power-related products, incorporated lycra panels and non-bunching tapered sleeves into its ProForm Heated Liner for a snug fit, optimum heat transfer and reduced bulk under tight-fitting riding gear. The fleece-lined collar is also wired, and an assortment of plugs (hidden behind zippered pockets in strategic locations) provides connections for heated gloves or pants. Powerlet sent us one of its sealed, weatherproof Performance Temperature Dual Controllers ($100) to vary output and prevent rider overheating.

In actual use, the zippered liner fit well under sport-oriented jackets and provided balanced heating. For longer rides in colder conditions, we wore a fleece insulating layer over the liner; for shortto

medium-range trips when temperatures were in the mid40s or higher, the liner alone was adequate.

One criticism: The dual controller and component cables are not labeled; only trial-and-error determines which dial han-

dles its respective garment when multiple garments are in use.

We didn’t try the ProForm in the rain-our machismo has its boundariesbut Powerlet assured us there is no danger of electrocution. “You’ll be wet but warm,” a company spokesman claimed. Works for us. □
