LUBRI-TECH GASKET REMOVER

CWz EVALUATIONS

The end of a tough, dirty job

REMOVING ENGINE GASKETS THAT have had thousands of miles to cook into the metal they contact is a grim task. Scraping and gouging them off has been the norm ever since twowheels were mated to internal-combustion engines, but Lubri-Tech Products now has an easier solution.

Simply named Gasket Remover, this product is applied with a brush (attached to the can's top), and is about the thickness and consistency of paint remover—be careful because it also irritates the skin and eyes like paint remover. A few minutes after being coated with the remover, most gaskets are softened to the point that they can be easily removed with a

cloth. Thicker gaskets—or really old ones—sometimes require two coats of Gasket Remover and a little nudge from a putty knife.

Along with being easy to use, the remover’s effectiveness means that there’s less chance of damaging the sealing surface and creating a leak, especially easy to do on aluminum cases and cylinder blocks. Another great use for this product, one the manufacturer doesn't mention in the instructions, is the easy removal of carbon build-up from pistons, heads and valves.

We stumbled upon this product at our local motorcycle dealer where it cost $6 for an 8-ounce can. Although

that sounds like a lot of money, one can will remove all of the gaskets on an average four-cylinder streetbike engine or on several dirtbike Singles. And it removes them in a fraction of the time that would normally be required. We only wish we had discovered this product sooner.
