generally not the case with pants, which, with a few exceptions, are often just loosely cut versions of the latest motocross gear.
Klim (pronounced “climb”), known for its technical snowmobile apparel, does things differently. At first glance, its Revolt pants look like conventional overthe-boot wear. Look more closely, however, and you’ll discover a twist: controlled venting. Two 14-inch zippers centrally located over the hips and thighs provide on-demand venting. Hot summer day in the dunes? Give the long-tabbed zippers a yank and feel the cooling breeze pass across your, urn, hips and thighs. In cooler conditions, open the vents only as much as needed or leave them zipped up altogether.
Okay, the controlled venting is a neat, versatile concept that actually works, but if that were the only feature that made the pants unique, their $150 suggested retail price might be difficult to swallow. Fortunately, there’s more to them than just that. To maximize on-bike com-
fort and mobility, the pants feature velcro-tabbed adjusters at the waist, a moisture-wicking full-length nylon mesh liner, two small zippered pockets, a gusseted crotch, and articulated knees and legs. They’re tough, too. Several low-speed tumbles left nary a mark on the ballisticnylon knees, and contact with a hot muffler had little effect on the Kevlar innerleg panels.
While we wouldn’t recommend the Revolt (or any over-the-boot pants) for MX, for trail-riding, they’re a welcome alternative to the norm. □
