Shock Doctor Power Gravity 2

Buffer for your brain?

SEEN STARS LATELY? THAT’S NOT A good thing, as repeated whacks to the head can lead to permanent brain damage. To protect against such injuries, Shock Doctor offers the Power Gravity 2, an inexpensive, ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) mouthguard that, after being heated in boiling water, molds to your bottom-yes, bottom-teeth for a personalized, low-profile fit.

The idea behind the patented design is a simple one: cushion impacts to the area between the jaw and skull near the ears

that can result in concussions. According to Shock Doctor, excessive head and eye movement caused by jaw, neck and shoulder fatigue may reduce the quality of information your eyes and ears send to your brain, slowing its ability to process sensory feedback. Regular use of a Mandibular Orthopedic Repositioning Appliance (MORA), such as the Gravity 2, may increase strength and enhance athletic performance.

While Shock Doctor makes mouthguards for various contact sports, the Gravity 2 is intended for use with a fullface or chinbar-equipped helmet. That additional element of protection justifies fitment over only the lower teeth, in turn improving breathing and speech.

It takes some nerve to bite down on a piece of plastic that you just pulled from a pot of boiling water, but a good impression takes just 20 seconds. Misaligned? Simply repeat the process. A comfortable fit

achieved, there’s nothing left to do but wear the guard while riding. Chances are, your brain will thank you. □
