BRP Under Bar Mount
CW EVALUATIONS
Stability with protection
FOR OFF-ROAD RIDERS WHO WANT A steering stabilizer but don’t like how top-mounted units stare them in the face, the Scotts Under Bar mount from Billet Racing Products offers an attractive alternative. Designed to work exclusively with Scotts stabilizers, the SUB mount moves the damper down and away from your tender bits in the event of an over-the-bar endo.
Installation of the mount, locating tower and stabilizer is a simple bolt-on affair, with only minor surgery to the provided bar pad required to make room for the damper’s low-speed adjustment knob. And unlike some integrated units that combine the mount and/or top triple-clamp with the stabilizer, the SUB setup allows the damper to be removed and used on multiple bikes.
BRP sells the SUB mount and stabilizer tower for $200, the Scotts damper for $320, or the whole deal for $500. Our Honda CRF250X testbike also required an additional $20 steel tank strap that replaced the stock plastic piece, and if you aren’t already running a tapered, oversize handlebar, add one of those to the bottom line. While bar shopping, keep in mind O the BRP mount
w — KÍ raises things almost an inch. In the case of our 250X, the extra height was welcome, opening up the cockpit for taller riders.
Few will argue with the benefits of a steering stabilizer in off-road applications. BRP’s SUB makes for clean, safe mounting. Besides, your tender bits will be forever grateful □
