Ups & Downs
DOWN: To scam artists, for preying on good people trying to buy their dreambikes. Reports CW reader Nat Pennestri of Monreal, Canada, “I bought a Ducati 998 on eBay in November and the transaction was through an escrow service that checked out at the time. But I never received the bike, and my money was never refunded.” Fake escrow companies are a common scam. On big-ticket items especially, always make sure to buy only from sellers with lots of good feedback. And even then, be careful.
UP: To Edelweiss Bike Travel, for a quarter-century of showing riders where to go. Back in 1980, the Austrian company led five paying customers on its first tour of the Alps. In 2005, Edelweiss will host 150 tours on five continents, and estimates that 2300 riders will take part. Cycle World will be among them on our annual GP Euro-Tour, this time to the Catalunya Grand Prix in Spain, June 3-13. Interested? A few tour spots are still open. Call Edelweiss at 800/507-4459 for more info.
UP: To the AMA for feeding our DVD needs. “Supermoto in the USA” features footage from the inaugural 2003 racing season, as well as rider profiles and plenty of stuff from behind the scenes. Supermoto not dirty enough? Try “2004 AMA Motocross Season Highlights,” which features the best of last year’s outdoor championship. What better way for fans to tune up for ’05?
