TRIUMPH TURNS IT UP!

WE THOUGHT TRIUMPH had gone and burned its bankroll developing the Rocket III, but lo, it wasn't so!

Check out the Speed Triple and its sweet new styling: Twin semi-underseat exhausts exit out a truncated tail. Depending on whether or not you squint, the wheels are fiveor 10-spokers. The bugeye lights naturally remain, but the inverted fork and radial brakes are big improvements at the front, while tidier aluminum radiator shrouds and turnsignal mounts clean things up even more.

Engine displacement has been increased to 1050cc. The bonus here is 77.4 foot pounds of torque at 5100 rpm, although the claimed 128 horsepower

should spice up what was already a really fun and fast bike. The King of Thugs is back!

The Sprint ST is all-new, too, similarly with a 1050cc engine tuned for 123 bhp and 77 ft.-lbs. Like the Speed Triple, the Sprint gets a refined gearbox (for better shifting) and an antibacklash clutch.

Wheelbase is shorter (57.2 inches), thanks to the redesigned swingarm also fitted to the Speed A Triple, while the body* work is completely redone. Check out the “Bandito”

front end. Also cool is the trio of pipes exiting above the taillight!.

We'd show you a picture of the new Daytona 650, but all the changes were on the inside, as in a big ger, 646cc motor. Claimed power is up2bhpto 112 horses, torque to 50 ft.-lbs., thanks mainly to a 3.1mmlonger stroke. Price is $7999. Mark Hoyer
