NASTIER NINJA TIMES TWO
Following on the success of the ZX-10R winning Best Superbike in Cycle World's 2004 "Ten Best Bikes," Kawasaki has treated its '05 middleweights to similar re-do's. The 636cc ZX-6R and 600cc ZX-6RR both have new cylinders and heads, plus a central ram-air intake system that feeds oval-shaped 38mm throttle bodies with two injectors per cylinder. Slipper clutches now come standard on both models, and transmission ratios, shift action and durability have been improved. A new frame sees the steering head pulled back closer to the rider and the swingarm pivot point moved forward, shortening the wheelbase in spite of a longer bridged swingarm. Capping things off is new aerodynamically efficient bodywork, with a split-seam fuel tank that houses the airbox in its forward half and fuel in back. An underseat muffler completes the aerodynamic upgrades, as well as the look. Brian Catterson
