WHAT'S UP, BOSSCAT?

Want weird? Unveiled at last fall's Tokyo Show, the concept Honda Bosscat is a two-wheeled menagerie. While cruiser (chrome headlight, pull-back handlebar, polished engine cases), scooter (step-through styling, small-diameter wheels) and sportbike (inverted fork, triple-disc brakes, underseat mufflers) influences are obvious. who would have guessed ergonomics that parrot a recumbent bicycle? With floor-boards the size of Texas, no less. Honda calls the Bosscat’s styling “original,” defending its low, narrow appearance as imparting “a definitive fashion statement while ensuring an impressive ride.” PR gobbledygook aside, not much is known about the turned-onend frame, but a liquid-cooled, dohc, 398cc parallel-Twin supplies power to the rear wheel. Honda says the Bosscat’s reason for being is to “express its rider’s individuality to the fullest.” A more traditional scooteresque Boss Cub was also shown. Thankfully, neither machine is headed stateside.
