PILOT TAKES OFF
Borrowing its moniker from Michelin’s popular car tires, the all-new Pilot Race combines a radial casing and zero-degree belting with opposing 45-degree cross plies. The result, company spokesmen say, is remarkable grip and stability. The smooth-shouldered, semi-slick tread pattern ups adhesion at extreme lean angles, yet provides efficient water evacuation in wet weather. There are two compounds: Pilot Race and Pilot Race Soft. The former was developed for high temperatures and abrasive pavement. The latter is ideal for nth-degree street riders and Supersport-class hopefuls, or cooler temperatures and smoother asphalt. Prices start at $142 for the front and $189 for the rear. Fitment is available for most modern sportbikes.
