Roadside assistance in a bag

MOST RIDERS, HAVING BEEN WEANED on modern, trustworthy iron, feel no need to be weighed down by anything other than the feeble, pot-metal tools already supplied with their bikes. Some of us know better, which is why the first thing that goes into our tankbags is a well-stocked tool roll, ready for most emergencies.

If you don’t have one, here’s a good start: CruzTool’s ValueMetrix. Neatly arrayed inside the toolkit’s 9 x 5-inch zippered pouch is an 8-inch adjustable wrench, two open-end wrenches (8/10 and 12/14mm), six hex wrenches, a sparkplug socket (but no ratchet), a really neat 4-in-l screwdriver, six zip-ties, the proverbial bailing wire, a roll of electrical tape, a sparkplug gapper, a shop rag and two small plastic vials, one containing WD-40, the other Loctite. Not exactly a top-end overhaul kit for a CBX Six, granted, but we tossed in a Mini Maglite, one of those fold-

ing all-in-one multi-tools and a flat-repair kit, and were ready for almost anything.

We admit, the ValueMetrix ain’t overly cheap-in fact, a quick rummage through the local Sears tool department would procure most of the tools at a lower price. Thing is, if you haven’t done so already you probably never will. Give CruzTools a call. □
