Harely-Davidson FXRG Nylon Jacket

CW EVALUATIONS

Losing the leather

TRADITIONALLY, HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S fashion oeuvre has been somewhat limited to leather. After all, the stuff is stylish and a good safeguard against road rash. But times change, motorcyclists evolve and The Motor Company has added synthetics to its Motor-Clothes lineup.

Which brings us to the FXRG Nylon Jacket. Available for men and women, the nylon-and-kevlar wrap has perforated padding at the shoulders and elbows, a foam insert at the spine, removable liner and kidney belt, Scotchlite reflective trim and zippered vents in the front and back.

We ordered the women’s version, which differs from the men’s in that its zipper pulls and such are on the left, and its bodice is more tapered. We found the FXRG to be not only comfortable, but flattering to the female form. It fits snugly without being bulky, and the protective padding is unintrusive. (Are you paying attention guys? Christmas is coming...)

Vanity notwithstanding, what we like most is that the jacket lends itself to coldand warm-weather riding. When it’s chilly, the zip-out liner helps keep you toasty. But if it’s hot, the horizontal rear vent and two vertical front openings gape wide for air circulation, thankfully without all that pesky billowing. An additional perk is that the chest vents can be easily accessed at speed.

Overall, the FXRG is a comfortable, attractive jacket that will appeal to the most hard-core of Harley disciples. Leather? No, but it is available in black only. Some things never change.
