BMW’S BEVY OF LIMITED-EDITION BIKES

BMW has released five limited-edition bikes, with features ranging from special paint to new bodywork.

The R100R Mystic gets the most mods, with new seat, tailsection, battery cover, handlebar, headlight supports, instrument holders and rear turnsignal supports. R1100RS models are decked out in black metallic paint and a factory-installed luggage rack; the K1100LT gets new gray paint and Special Edition graphics. The K75S features heated handlebar grips and yellow paint, while the K75 sports three-spoke wheels.

In late-breaking BMW news, a R1100RT, expected next year, has been seen in Germany.

RENT ROOMS NOW FOR THE USGP

The United States Grand Prix is still three months away, but Travelcraft (47 E. Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera, CA 94925; 800/541-1223) is already accepting hotel reservations. The travel agency admits that although there are hundreds of rooms in the Laguna Seca area, only a small number remain in the economy category.

Travelcraft says it has not heard whether or not it will be permitted to use its helicopter service to shuttle people to the track.

WP A NEW F-1 RACING POWER

WR maker of motorcycle suspension components, has stepped into Formula One car racing in high style. The Dutch company is now the official shock supplier to the Benetton F-1 team. WP seems more than up to the challenge of F1, which is considered by many to be the technological pinnacle of auto racing: Benetton’s Michael Schumacher won the season-opening Brazilian Grand Prix in convincing fashion.
