SPY PHOTO REVEALS BMW'S NEW STANDARD

AN 1100cc BMW standard, seen here undergoing tests in Germany, is coming here soon, according to a BMW spokesman. It will replace the R100R standard.

"It will be the next bike, after we introduce the new version of the GS," says the spokesman. "It will be in the U.S in the not-too-distant future. We don’t know exactly when, but it won't be two years away. It could be here as early as this fall."

In addition to using the firm’s revitalized Boxer engine and Telelever front end, the standard has a two-part oil-cooler hidden under plastic covers and mounted in front of the rider’s knees.
