SUPER STANDARD, PART TWO
Honda picked last fall's Tokyo Motor Show to debut its new Super Four, a 1000cc standard with a liquid-cooled engine taken from the CBR1000 (see Cycle World, February, 1992). Now comes evidence, in the form of the photo you see here, that Big Red is very serious indeed about the Super Standard concept. This is the CB400 Super Four, scheduled for sale in Japan this spring. The bike's engine is based on that of the de funct CB-1, with altered carburetion and cam timing, and with its cams driven by chain, instead of gears, in the interest of reduced production costs. Also, to en hance the bike's appearance, the liquid-cooled engine's cylinder block has grown fins. No plans exist to offer the bike here, according to Honda.
