A GUIDE TO ORPHAN'S HOMES
Need Parts for Your Rare or Out-of-Production Bike? Here's a Directory of People Who Can Help.
Dee Winegardner
Are you having difficulty keeping your one-of-a-kind motorcycle in running condition? Has the excitement of owning a rare machine begun to wane in the seemingly hopeless search for orphan parts? Do you doggedly follow the classified ads, study the history of the marque and join fellow enthusiasts in activities to pursue parts and technical advice? Are you driving the man at the local bike shop crazy?
Be not intimidated or dismayed. There are probably hundreds of small companies that buy, sell and trade orphan and hardto-find parts. To further this effort we have compiled a list of some nice, knowledgeable folks—some are well-known companies and others are individuals or small organizations— that because of the very nature of their business are not going to accumulate great fortunes. And because of space limitations, the list is not complete. If what you’re looking for does not appear in this compilation you might want to try a subscription to Motorcyclist Post, Box 154, Rochdale, Mass. 01542 or Motorcycle Trader, Box 73-MP, Folly Beach, S.C. 29439. These are two excellent publications with lots of classified advertising to help you find your missing part or to let folks know what you’re looking for.
Remember to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your correspondence. We cannot make endorsements or recommendations because we haven’t done business with them. But they seem to be interested, dedicated people who are willing to help you and your bike get on the road again. >
