YAMAHA YZR500s AND RX125 FOR U.S.
According to Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S. racing manager Ken Clark, Yamaha will import 20 TZ500 production versions of the works YZ500 four-cylinder, water-cooled road racer used by Kenny Roberts to win the World Championship. Clark said that the bikes, which will arrive in time for the 1980 season, will include the rotary exhaust port valve, which varies port size to increases low and mid-range response without harming top-end power Yamaha will also bring a limited number of RX125 water-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke road racers into the country. Experimental versions of the Yamaha 125s have dominated races entered in Malaysia and other parts of Asia, and are said to be significantly faster than the MT125R aircooled Hondas which rule U.S. club events. Both the 500 and the 125 will beexpensive, according to Clark, which we guess would put their cost at more than $10.000 for the 500 and more than $2500 for the 125.
