CW Rolling Concours

Winners ride, riders win

THERE IS NO GREATER PLACE TO ENJOY a motorcycle than from the saddle, which is why the Cycle World Rolling Concours is such a great classic bike show: Everybody rides if they want to win! Some 80 bikes showed up for this year’s event, held for the second time in conjunction with August’s Indy MotoGP round. We had a great new location right in front of the Pagoda, and the bike collection drew huge crowds all weekend (participants could park there any time). After we enjoyed a wonderful ride out of the city to a park for lunch and back, judging took place. I was ably assisted in this difficult job (so many great machines) by Peter Egan (riding his Honda CB550 Four) and Bill Getty (bike collector and owner of JRC Engineering, a vintage Britbike parts distributor).

Japanese classics continue their rise, as made evident by the incredible machines pictured, the Best of Showwinning 1975 Honda CB400F owned by Steve Passwater (1) and Sergei Traycoff’s Japanese Classic-winning 1972 Kawasaki S2 350cc Triple (2). Street Special (Cafe Racers, Bob-Jobs, etc.) was won by John Bova’s 1973 Kawasaki H2 750 (3), and one of our special awards (in this case, “Best Story”) was taken by Jimmy Stock and his 1966 Suzuki X6 Hustler (4), owned since new and customized by him circa’70.
