2013 BMW F700GS

ROUNDUP

Entry-level Twin gets big features

BMW HAS STUCK TO ITS GUNS AND CONTINUED THE STRANGE PROTOCOL BEGUN WITH THE F650GS by giving the more urban-oriented F700GS version of the F800GS (also updated for ’13) a model designation that has nothing to do with its engine displacement. In reality, the 700 has the same 798cc parallel-Twin engine as the 800 but with peak power reduced by a claimed 10 horsepower to better serve the entry-level market.

Big changes come in the form of available features. For the first time, ABS with a twindisc front brake setup is standard, and both Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) and Stability Control (ASC, BMW-speak for traction control) are optional on this middleweight.

Also available-and intended to attract entry-level and female riders-are a Low accessory saddle that reduces seat height from the standard 32.3 to 31 .1 inches and a lower suspension option that will bring seat height all the way down to 30.1 in. Updates to the windshield and dash round out changes. The 700 is available in three colors: Red Apple Metallic, Masculine Ostra Grey Metallic Matte or Dynamic Glacier Silver Metallic. No word, though, if all three hues will be available in our market. U.S. pricin~ hasn't been released, but BMW rredicts that the F700GS should start arriving in dealerships this fall, possibly even as early as September.
