HAYABUSA BY THE NUMBERS

King of the dyno, quickest in the quarter

At the recent press launch for the 2008 Hayabusa, we were

only allowed two passes down the dragstrip. Now we’ve

received a test unit for further evaluation and have gained a

better understanding of its performance capability.

Tipping our scales at 552 pounds without fuel, the new

bike weighs 20 pounds more than last year’s. On the Cycle

World dyno, the ’08 ’Busa put down peak numbers of 171.4

horsepower at 9650 rpm and 102.0 foot-pounds of torque

at 7200 rpm. That’s nearly a dozen more ponies than its

predecessor-and 1.2 more than the last Kawasaki ZX-14 we

tested.

Measured top speed as you may have guessed is limited

to 186 mph. But it gets there quicker than ever, setting a

new CW production-bike-best quarter-mile pass of 9.70

seconds at 148.48 mph along the way. Don Canet
