Milwaukee Makeovers
More `06 Harleys
Old is new-and-improved and yesterday is a brighter tomorrow at Harley-Davidson. The Super Glide isn’t the only model name being revived for 2006.
Making a return is the Heritage Softail, last seen 15 years ago and now updated with a fat, 200mm-wide rear tire—the biggest ever on a Harley-and broader fender to match. Also back in the catalog (from midyear ’05) is the dirt-track-esque Sportster 883R, vibe-free and now smoother-shifting for ’06 with a rubber-mounted engine and greatly refined five-speed transmission.
As on the Super Glide, all Dyna models get the new six-speed Cruise Drive transmission, larger 49mm fork legs and a more robust frame. Within the line, the chopper-style Dyna Wide Glide is the most altered, its fork kicked-out to a ) whopping 36 degrees, and tail end reshaped to accommodate a
wider, 160mm rear meat. New 1.25-inch ape-hanger handlebars ride on shorter risers hogged-out for internal wiring and a cleaner look.
On the Revolution-engine front, all VRSC models now run Brembo triple-disc brakes, introduced on the Street Rod. A new instrument display incorporates a clock and second tripmeter, and the sidestand features an easy-to-find tab to
eliminate parking-lot dabbing.
Finally, the Ultra Classic Electra Glide gets a redesigned, adjustable Tour Pak with LED side-mounted lights and an 80watt Advanced Audio System produced for Harley by Harman/Kardon.
And watch this space, Hogophiles. Harley jn apparently has a few more tricks for ’06.
