Harley-Davidson Heated Hand Grips

A sure cure for frigid digits

No MATTER HOW HOT YOUR HOPPED-UP Harley might be, riding it in cold weather can leave your hands feeling like a couple of Meatsicles. But if your H-D is of 1996 vintage or newer, The Motor Company's own Parts & Accessories Division has the answer with its Genuine Heated Hand Grips. Installation is fairly simple, and the kit comes with all the necessary components and a comprehensive instruction sheet. The hardest part of the job is snaking the wires through the inside of the handlebar. Most reasonably competent home mechanics should be able to complete the job in a couple of hours.

Harley has given heated handgrips a slightly different spin. They're available in 10 different styles, including foam, billet, leather, decorative rubber and chrome. They require no secondary switches or control boxes. Instead, they involve just one ex ternal wire each, with a small control knob on the outer end of the left grip that adjusts the heat output from around 95 up to 170 degrees. That highest number falls under the heading of plain old hot. Once the rider se lects a comfortable level, an integral thermostat main tains a constant heat output re gardless of changes in ambient air temperature. No worries about running the battery dry, the grips are designed so they operate only when the engine is running. Quality is excellent and there is no question about their fit and corn patibility-or their ability to provide the ecstasy of toasty digits no matter the weather.
