What to do?

Racing tear-offs^ are one possible option, but fitment requires drilling holes in the shield for mounting posts-or the purchase of a shield equipped with posts. Also, multiple layers often obstruct vision, and unless taped down, the pull-tabs flutter noisily.

A better alternative is Velocity Tearoffs’ Street Laminated Tearoff System. This patented product is based on the company’s Speedstack7 racing system, in which 2mil-thick sheets of opticalgrade Dupont Mylar are laminated together in seven-layer packs.

Unlike that setup, which relies on traditional mounting posts, the Street version uses a Perimeterscal Mounting System for tool-less installation on any flat

shield, available from most, if not all, helmet manufacturers. The narrow adhesive seal is airand watertight, and leaves behind no residue when removed. By conI ventional tear-off

standards, the pull-tab is very small, so removing an individual layer is best done with a bare hand and the helmet off.

Sold individually or in packs of three, the tear-offs are not supposed to be cleaned. When they get dirty, simply rip ’em off' and throw ’em away. Our only concerns-the lack of multi-radius applications and need for greater peripheral coverage-are already being addressed.
