TEXAS BBQ, ITALIAN STYLE!
PROBABLY CAN'T think of too many reasons to willingly part company with a motorcycle traveling at 120 mph, can you? Us either, but Colin Edwards found one when his Aprilia RS3 Cube MotoGP missile burst spectacularly into flames during practice for the German GP. The fire was
said to have been the result of a dislodged gas filler that allowed fuel to leak onto the engine. The Texan first noticed drops of liquid on his visor which he thought was rain. Then the spectacular blaze broke out, no doubt fed by the strong breeze one encounters at triple-digit speeds. “I discovered that a barbecue is a *ible thing if you are on the side!” Edwards said. “I completely wrapped by the
flames and I decided to jump off.” Edwards and machine tumbled into the gravel trap. The Cube faced what amounted to its own mini-Armageddon-both smashed and burned to the ground-while Edwards suffered only minor burns on his wrist and thigh. We’ve always thought of GP bikes as rare, but now Aprilia can say theirs is well-done... -Mark Hoyer
