MAX FACTOR

Holy Helix! Yamaha has one-upped Honda's freeway-capable cruiser-scoot with a long-wheelbase creation of its own. Presently available only in Japan, the new XP500 TMax super-scooter is powered by a liquid-cooled, dohc, eight-valve, 500cc parallel-Twin that produces a claimed 40 horsepower. The TMax rolls on wide, 14-inch wheels mated to a 38mm conventional fork and an under-engine “pull-type” shock absorber. The tubular-steel “diamond” frame is said to be more rigid than conventional “U-shaped” designs, and makes possible an alleged top speed of 100 mph. Dual disc brakes shed speed, and are operated by handlebar-mounted levers. The experience is further enhanced with newly crafted aerodynamic bodywork, rider-friendly ergonomics and underseat storage suitable for a full-face helmet or a laptop computer. There’s even a dedicated recharger slot for your cellular telephone!
