SKETCH IN SIXTH GEAR
More and more motorsports illustrators are coming to realize what motorcycle enthusiasts have known all along: Bikes are more exciting than cars. The latest artist to try his hand at two-wheelers is Michael D. Savage. Best known for his Indycar and Formula One works, Savage is a closet sportbike junkie who owns a race-kitted Kawasaki ZX-7R and just put a down payment on a Ducati 916. For him, there was no resisting bike racing's appeal: "Motorcycles are incredible," he exclaims. "It's one thing to drive a car with four wheels, but going as fast as they go on two wheels...it's just incredible. The sounds, the colors, are fabulous."
Savage has just made available a lithograph of his first motorcycle piece, a pencil sketch of Miguel Duhamel in ac tion on the Smokin' Joe's Honda RC45. The limit ed-edition (200 pieces) work is signed and num bered by the artist, then autographed by Duhamel himself. Priced at $70, they're available from Michael D. Savage De signs, 990-4 Diplomat Blvd., Cocoa Beach, FL 32931; 407/783-2845.
