MZ SET TO INVADE UNITED STATES
ROUNDUP
AS OF ABOUT SEPTEMBER, there'll be another German motorcycle marque on sale here in the U.S. Ray Campanile, national sales manager of American Jawa, says that September is the tentative start-up date for MuZ Motorcycles, which will sell machines built in Zschopau, Germany, an industrial city in the previously East German state of Saxony, just 60 miles west of Prague, Czechoslovakia.
MuZ, which means Motorrad und Zweiradwerk, was known as MZ prior to a reorganization late last year. The company plans to sell three models here, all of which will be powered by the Austrian-built Rotax 500cc Single. The bikes will be the Saxon 500 Tour, a streetbike with a small, fork-mounted fair ing; the Saxon 500 Coun try, a dual-purpose bike wearing Italian-made body work; and the Silver Star Classic 500, a nostalgia-bike that trades on 1960s styling. Campanile says the bikes all will weigh in at about 300 pounds, and that prices will range from $4499 for the Saxon 500 Tour to $5499 for the Sil ver Star.
