AXO MECHANIX GLOVES

CW EVALUATION

Handwear for wrenching

LET’S FACE IT, MOTORCYCLE MAINTEnance can be downright painful. Scraped knuckles, singed fingers and minor cuts are a few of the annoyances we endure for a thoroughly serviced, cleaned and polished machine.

Mechanix Gloves from AXO Sport America are designed to protect your delicate digits from those not-so-uncommon scrapes and abrasions. In addition, says AXO, the Koreanmade gloves help increase grip on certain surfaces.

Similar in feel and fit to high-quality motocross gloves, the synthetic leather and nylon Mechanix have heat-resistant palms, padded mesh tops, elastic wristbands with velcro clo-

sures, and pre-curved fingers. For all but the most intricate work, the gloves work wonderfully, keeping hands clean

and abrasion-free. The heat-resistant palms also perform as claimed, allowing the wearer to handle otherwise untouchable parts like exhaust pipes and sparkplugs for short periods of time.

The Mechanix also proved durable. During testing, the internal seams remained intact, the black coloring didn’t fade or dye our skin and the elasticized wrist kept its shape. And when the gloves did become soiled, we simply threw them in the washing machine. Mechanix Gloves are available in S-XXL and retail for $33 from AXO Sport America (24950 Anza Dr., Valencia, CA 91355; 800/222-4296). Think of them as preventive medicine for your hands.
