LINING UP FOR THE BRITTEN

John Britten's V1100 has created an amazing stir of enthusiasm wherever it has been raced—so much so that Britten now is poised to offer examples of the extremely high-performance, carbon-fiber wonder for sale as streetbikes.

Britten not only plans to build a batch of 10 customer replicas in his Christchurch, New Zealand, factory, but already has taken steps to get production underway in a new plant he's built just for that purpose. Several teams now racing in WERA events have expressed inter est, but Britten says this first batch of bikes will be sold with lights and electric starters, which can be re moved if needed when road turns to racetrack.

Price? Expect to pay at least $60,000 for one of these beauties. If your desire for a Britten isn't daunted by the size of that number, you can reach John Britten at P0. Box 1444, Christchurch, New Zealand, or you can fax him at 011/64/3/797963.

CORBIN FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS

Doing good works for other peo ple seems to be a particularly pleasant characteristic of motorcy cle enthusiasts. An example of that trend is the third-annual "Fiesta For Kids," co-sponsored by seatmaker Mike Corbin and former racer Bubba Shobert.

Held in Castroville, California, the event raised about $13,000 from about 500 participants. The money will benefit Ronald McDonald House and Packard Children's Hos pita! at Stanford University.

As part of the event, a number of products were raffled off. Top win ner was 18-year-old Jarrod Lininger, whose raffle ticket won him a brand-new Honda Nighthawk 750.

Next year's event will be held in mid-July. For more information, phone 800/438-8838.

MORE ON THE ITALIAN MUSCLEBIKE

Ducati's plans to debut its socalled unfaired "II Monstro" mus clebike with a 972cc version of the 900SS two-valve, air-and-oil cooled engine have been put into abeyance. The debut version of the bike will carry the standard 900SS engine, which will be used while the long-stroke, big-bore motor re mains under development.

But no matter. The naked "II Monstro" is a very dramatic ma chine, one that is aimed at enabling Ducati dealers to attract crossover trade from buyers who tend to think first of the Japanese Big Four when they're in the market for a new set of wheels. Will this gambit work? We shall see.
