"I LOVE TO WORK AND NOT be interrupted,” says BMW restorer Dale Lehnert, who admits he’s a very independent soul who doesn’t like being told what to do. He is so independent, in fact, that his love of things BMW does not extend to the K-series line; he’s a Boxer man through-and-through. At least to his eyes, the BMW K-series bikes, with their inline engines and contemporary styling, look too much like the other motorcycles being produced today, that they’re not stylistically different enough to satisfy his desire for personality in a bike. And that’s a part of the reason he confines his restoration efforts to the Boxer Twins from Munich. Another reason he restores them concerns the considerable commercial interest that exists in restored Boxers. Lehnert would, in fact, like to sell the pair seen here.
