Compac Pocket Shoppers
EVALUATION
Ever gone to the store for a couple of staples, say, beer and chips, and walked out with two grocery sacks full of goodies? Who among us hasn't, right?
No problem if you're four-wheeling. On your bike, though, it’s a different matter. Unless you have a pair of saddlebags permanently affixed to your bike, chances are that occasionally you'll be caught with a big load and nowhere to put it.
Some of the stuff might go in a tankbag, but not all of it. You might get a little more strapped down on the seat. And the rest? In the lap, gripped with the knees.
That doesn't exactly lend itself to sporty riding, and it's not what you’d call safe. One panic stop and it's bye-bye barbecued Fritos. Or worse.
Problem solved: here are the Compac Pocket Shopper saddlebags.
These are lightweight, collapsible nylon bags you can stow in a tankbag or, even, a jacket pocket. They’re big enough and strong enough to hold two full-size shopping sacks, which works out to about $100 worth of groceries in today’s economy. They close with a drawstring for smallei loads. Simply unfold, throw them over the seat, load up and ride away. If you feel uneasy about transporting your weekly purchasing power in saddlebags that aren't secured to the bike, the bright orange Pocket Shoppers come with loops on the backs so you can tie them down to the frame.
We tried a pair and found them convenient and useful. Very useful. We've started packing them as a staple for around-town riding.
Use them a couple of times, and you'll wonder howyou ever got along without them.
Suggested price for a pair of Pocket Shoppers is $23.95. They’re available from your local dealer, or from Chase Harper Co., PO Box 4098, Santa Barbara, Calif. 93103. (805) 965-7977.
