HONDA XR500 WINS PARIS-TODAKAR RACE

Frenchman Cyril Neveu won the fourth annual Paris-to-Dakar trans-African 6000-mi. race on a Honda XR500. Neveu beat 370 entries in and on all sorts of vehicles (including 130 motorcycles) to win, taking his third overall victory.
Neveu rode a Honda France-sponsored 500cc XR500 modified with a 10.6-gal. gas tank and auxiliary lighting. Honda France fielded a six-bike team, and five finished, including the second, seventh and 13th place motorcycles. Nicole Maitrot rode an XR250 for the team and won the Ladies Cup given to the first woman to finish.
