MORE NEW KAWASAKIS
When Kawasaki announced the 1982 model lineup, the really new motorcycles were embargoed because Kawasaki’s PR department didn’t want any dealers surprised before the dealer meeting. That meant last month’s new Kawasaki story didn’t include photos of some of the new bikes. What was left out included the GPzlOOO, shown here with Eddie Lawson. It’s painted bright green, like Lawson’s championship superbike, and includes the lowered seat, 4-into-l Kerker exhaust and reservoir shocks Lawson used last year. There’s also a small GPz fairing that wasn’t on last year’s superbike, but can now be used for next year’s race effort.
That same fairing is used on the new GPzl 100, which otherwise looks like last year’s 1100. The only mechanical changes for Kawasaki’s fastest machine are a second generation digital electronic fuel injection and stronger crankshaft construction.
Two new models with common styling are the Spectre 1100 and Spectre 750. Both are painted black and gold and both have shaft drives, air assisted suspension front and rear and more extreme styling than any of Kawasaki’s LTD or CSR models. This is the first time Kawasaki has offered a smaller displacement shaft drive bike, though the engine’s specifications are the same as those of the normal chain drive 750. S3
