REBEL REWARDED

When Robert Burford was the speaker of the Colorado legislature, he co-sponsored the legislation for the Sagebrush Rebellion, an effort to wrest control of public land from the federal government. Now Burford has been named director of the Bureau of Land Management, the agency that administers much of the federal land in the West. Does this mean the BLM will make a complete about face? Probably not. But we can hope for more responsible land management and a sympathetic ear.
