THE FIRST AMC RACING SCENE

Here we have another of those useful little booklets put out by the ubiquitous Bruce Main-Smith, following in the tracks of the Norton Scene, Velocette Scene, Vintage Scene ad infinitum. These works are useful to plain old enthusiasts as well as to restorers as in many cases photos are shown (big useful photos, often of both sides on facing pages) of the motorcycles in question, often before they have been updated, improved or otherwise b. . . .d about. This issue seems to be mostly about the celebrated A.JS 7R and its derivative the Matchless G50, being especially valu-

able to 7R owners or fanciers as enough examples are shown throughout the ra^c of production to “catch" the changes in external specification. Seeley variants are also shown along with a few demon mods which help to make life easier. Also present and accounted for are the rare G45 Twin and the ill-fated but still fascinating Porcupine in all its machineshop glory. Mr. M-S gives lots of handy hints in the rather sparse text, as this is a picture book really, and even if you hate AMC products the racing ones are well worth a look. Henry N. Manner III
