THE DUCT TAPES
The Duct Tapes by Ed Hertfelder PO. Box 1131 Haddonfield, N.J. 08033 $2 58 pp.
Nice conflict of interest here. First. Ed Hertfelder is a terribly funny. amusing and informative writer, just the sort of person CW likes to inform readers about. Against that, Ed does a monthly column for another magazine, the one Henry Manney would identify as C****. While those other people are pleasant chaps and do a good job. still, one dislikes saying that persons who read our rivals will find entertainment there.
And then t^ere was the time the parts man at the Suzuki store sent me down the street to the Triumph store because he knew the Suzuki bölt was weak and the Triumph bolt wasn’t. That’s what service should be and the heck with whether Macy’s tells Gimbel’s.
This is a funny book.
Two cautions. One, this is a collection of reprints from the other magazine. If you’ve been reading Ed’s column, you’ve already read this material and the only value will come from having it all in one place.
Second, you may have had to have been there to appreciate this material. Ed writes about enduros, enduro riders and enduro clubs. I read the section about the clubhouse and fell out of my chair laughing. I read it to my wife and she said “So?” I read it to my 16-year-old, the kid racer, and he said “Eh?” Ed may be delightfully funny only if you've spent too much time falling into creeks and hanging around with people who burn down their own clubhouse every year.
If you're one of them, that is, one of us, then this booklet is the best $2 you'll spend this year.
