With or without the optional scorching flame paint job on the gas tank the Harley-Davidson Wide Glide (no foolin) is the most outrageous customized motorcycle to ever come from a major motorcycle manufacturer. Starting out with what could have been a Super Glide. Harley-Davidson kicked out the steering head to 33°, used offset triple clamps so the forks are inclined at 34.4°, installed a 21 in. front tire and 5.00-16 rear tire.
Highway pegs are a normal part of any chopper. so Harley-Davidson not only put on highway pegs. hut left off any other pegs for the rider and positioned the brake and shift levers up by the pegs. The leaned back riding style is encouraged with the highly stepped seat, including a sissy bar with a stash pouch behind it. Other styling touches are the flared rear fender, tiny Sportster-sized headlight nestled between the wide Glide front end, and dual shorty mufflers.
Power for the Wide Glide comes from Harley’s standard 80 eu. in. V-Twin. For 1980 the engine has a new breakerless electronic ignition. Otherw ise it's standard Harley: long stroke, multiplate dry cluteh. dry sump, four-speed transmission, and 71.5 lb.ft of torque.
