HELPING HAND

Not content with her influence as administratrix of the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission. Joan Clay-brook has offered to help the Consumer Product Safety Commission set safety standards for minibikes and off-road motorcycles. The CPSC was scheduled to vote on further action for non-licensed motor-cycles on August 6. Originally the CPSC was petitioned by two doctors to set standards to reduce injuries in off-road motor-cycle accidents.

A letter from Miss Clay brook said: “We also believe that safety standards for unlicensed motorcycles would be desirable, but would recommend that motorcycles be addressed separately from minibikes and minicycles. As you know we have experience in setting safety standards for motorcycles used on public roads. I would be delighted to provide technical assistance to the Commission from my staff if you decide to write standards for unlicensed minibikes, minicycles, or motorcycles."
