RACING REVIEW
NUMBERS STANDARDIZED
By recent ruling of the American Motorcycle Association Competition Congress, the system of national number assignment has been standardized.
Under this new system, numbers assigned in 1970 were used as a starting point for 1972 assignments.
Once a rider earns a national number, he may keep that same number from year to year, providing he finishes in the top 65 riders in national points or finishes in the top 25 riders in combined points. All previous No. 1 riders, still active in racing, receive one digit numbers. Any numbers not accounted for will be assigned. In other words, things are more or less the same as they were in the good old days.
