DUNSTALL NORTON TUNING MANUAL

A Valuable Guide For Four-Stroke Buffs

FOR YEARS, the names Dunstall and Norton have been synonymous with speed, reliability and styling. Paul Dunstall has been responsible for more development work on Norton Twins than any other single person, and now “you can buy a piece of Paul Dunstall” for only $7!

The Norton Dominator Twin was designed by Herbert Hopwood in 1947, and although it has remained basically the same, many detail changes have occurred to increase both the size and power output. In 1956, the 500-cc engine was enlarged to 600cc; in 1962 a 650 appeared for the American market, and the 750 Atlas series was introduced in 1965, from which the Commando was derived.

Paul’s tuning manual deals with all models using the 650and 750-cc Norton engines, which includes the G15 Matchless of a few years ago. Detailed information given ranges from cylinder head modifications to camshafts to steering and braking, with a special section on racing machine preparation.

Although the manual deals with Norton engines and frames in particular, many of the points brought to light are applicable to other four-cycle motorcycles as well, making the manual a valuable addition to the tuner’s and enthusiast’s library.
