IN THE ABSENCE of Mike Hailwood and Jim Redman, Giacomo Agostini (MV) scored decisive wins in the 350 and 500cc classes of this year's Finnish Grand Prix, held at Imatra, near the Russian border. Big surprise of the meet was that Hailwood had been told by Count Agusta that the MVs would not run in Finland. This victory puts Agostini in a position to win the 350 world title in his first year (made easier by Redman's broken shoulder).

Hugh Anderson won the 125 race from Suzuki teammate Frank Perris by less than a second after elbow to elbow dicing for the whole race. Leitert (MZ) was third and Ralph Bryans fourth. Mike Duff won the 250 race easily from Rosner (MZ). Phil Read was not present as he already has the 250 world title but Duff needs the points to beat Jim Redman for second place in the 250 title chase.

Agostini easily beat Paddy Driver in the 500 race, finishing over two minutes ahead of the South African. Englishman Fred Stevens led the remaining "privateers" to finish in third place. No factory Hondas were present; all the factory racers have worn out. Bryans and Beale rode production twins, with Beale finishing second to Agostini in the 350 race. •
