A glimpse into the motocross explosion

Motocross and photography have always been David Dewhurst’s great passions. For 50 years this English expat living in America raced and took pictures around the world. “Took pictures” is perhaps a bit of an understatement. Access and passion are combined with great talent, as shown in these amazing photos from the film era, which Dewhurst has curated into a forthcoming coffee-table book to celebrate the amazing times motocross has given him—and us.

From the booming four-strokes of the early 1970s to the exotic factory two-strokes of the mid-1980s, Motocross The Golden Era takes an indepth look at the bikes, the riders, and the companies that made that time so special.

Interviews with motocross champions reveal what really went on behind the scenes. Why did Bob Hannah take a $200,000 pay cut to sign with Honda? What made David Bailey so different from all his competitors? Why does Roger DeCoster think Supercross is ruining American motocross?

Motocross The Golden Era is a tribute to a time when motocross technology was changing daily. When racetracks were everywhere. When box vans lined the pits. It’s a look back at a simpler time when racing just seemed so much fun. A time that we will probably not see again. Thanks to Dewhurst’s work, the era will live on.
