Suzuki's Open-class adventure bike for the masses arrives late this fall

IT’S OFFICIAL: The V-Strom 1000 that Suzuki told us as early as last October would be coming to the U.S. will make its debut as a 2014 model and likely be shown at the inaugural AIMExpo motorcycle show in Orlando this October. Production V-Stroms are expected in Suzuki dealers shortly after that. Though final specs and color options have not been announced, Suzuki says the bike will closely resemble the Concept V-Strom shown here (which looks pretty much identical to the one Suzuki debuted last year at Cologne).
The large Strom was last available in the U.S. as a 2012 model, when it weighed a claimed 525 pounds wet and sold for $10,399. Aside from the excellent dohc V-Twin that first appeared in the TL1000S in 1997 and the basic twin-spar aluminum frame, everything looks different and slimmed down on the new machine, which has sprouted an inverted fork, a beak and a low-mount exhaust can that makes room for the accessory bags. Suzuki says ABS and traction control will be standard equipment, and things like heated grips and seats will be options, along with other adventuresome bits.
What we don’t have yet is a price, but with that tried-and-true V-Twin, the V-Strom should be the most affordable of the big adventure bikes.
