Honda's 17,000-rpm Street magic" screamed the zinging-to-redline, analog-tachometer-dominated cover of this month's issue. "The CBR25O is.. .an amazement and a mystery," began Executive Editor Steve Anderson, reporting from Japan, "a streetbike that revs like Hailwood's Six, a streetbike that makes more power than Honda's first racing 250s, a streetbike that is nothing less than the fulfillment of a promise made long ago."

•Artist Hector Cademartori has been an indispensible member of the CIV family for more than 25 years. His schoolmarm-scolding “I will not pick on Honda” illustration in this issue addressed criticism from a reader. Referring to comments made in a previous issue about Honda breaking our 1985 24-hour world speed record, the Utah resident wrote, “Enough is enough. Now why don’t you grow up and show a little sportsmanship?” To which we replied, “Sure. How little?”

•Second-year Expert Chris Carr was leading the Grand National Championship, readers learned in Clipboard. The AMA had mandated 33mm intake restrictors for the Harley-Davidson XR-750, and Carr and crew were trying to find lost power. “We’ve spent $8000 so far on dyno time, different heads and porting, and so on,” Carr said at the time. “When we first put the restrictors in, we lost six horsepower at 8500 rpm, but with the changes, we’ve got just about all of that back.” Carr went on to finish fourth in the championship. Honda-mounted Bubba Shobert took the title, his third. —Matthew Miles
