Harley-Davidson FXDX Dyna Super Glide Sport
Best Cruiser, 1999 Years sold: 7 (1 999-2005) MSRP new: $12,999 (1999) to $14,880 (2005) Blue Book retail value: $6565 (1999) to $9065 (2005) Basic specs: 1999 was the first year for Harley's Twin Cam engine, an 80-cubic-inch (1 450cc), ohv, 45-degree V-Twin that made 60.3 hp at 3400 rpm on the CW dyno, with 73.0 ft.-lb. of torque at 3600. That was good for 13.67 seconds and 95.64 mph in the quarter-mile and a top speed of 108 mph.
Why it won: The FXDX broke new ground for The Motor Company by providing the traditional H-D Big Twin cruiser style, sound and sensory experience in a chassis that handled well enough to be true fun on the backroads. Longer, higher-quality suspension than on the other Dynas blessed the Sport with more cornering clearance and better chassis control, and dual-disc front brakes provided capable stopping power. From the 1999 Ten Best story: "Really, any H-D model with the new engine is worthy of this award; we picked the FXDX because it's the sportiest."
