UPs & DOWNs
ROUNDUP
UP: To MotoGP promoter Dorna, for jumping on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch bandwagon. The Spanish company’s new download allows fans to receive live event timing and scoring on those mobile devices. Additionally, track position for each rider, news and results can be accessed through the application. The download costs $18.99, with unlimited free access throughout the season. It is available from the iTunes App Store or www.motogp.com.
UP: To Chuckwalla Valley Raceway,
for giving residents in the southwest another place to ride. Stage one of the multi-phase project was completed in early April, just in time for a SoCal Trackdays event. Plans for the 400-acre facility located in Desert Center, California (one hour east of Palm Springs), include two additional roadrace tracks, garages, timing and scoring towers and a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse and restaurant. Fastrack Riders and Jason Pridmore’s Star School have joined SoCal Trackdays, scheduling multiple 2010 dates. For more information, visit www.chuckwallavalleyraceway.com.
DOWN: To MX Sports and Glen Helen Raceway, for failing to come to an agreement, which led to the cancellation of the AMA Motocross National scheduled for May 29. The good news, however, is that Glen Helen owner Bud Feldkamp quickly signed a five-year contract with Youthstream (promoter of the FIM Motocross World Championship) to host a round of the MX1 and MX2 championships, with the option of hosting the Motocross of Nations in the future.
